Patients are waiting, Doctors are waiting and Communities are waiting While millions of Canadians wait to get a family doctor, thousands of foreign trained physicians wait to fulfill their dream of becoming licensed doctors in Canada.

As more and more Canadians realize they can't get a family physician and the health-care system struggles due to a shortage of medical practitioners, we see the plight of a small town that is trying to recruit doctors. There are just not enough new medical graduates to fill the vacancies. The community's medical challenges form the backdrop for the stories of three foreign trained physicians. They would love the jobs available and are doing everything they can to try and get licensed so they can work in such a community. The international medical graduates were told the doors are open before they came to Canada from Kenya, Nepal and India and have faced unforeseen challenges trying to do "what they were trained to do".
The Big Wait features a journey of parallel story lines. Will the small community of Midland-Penetanguishene find their doctors, and will the international doctors find a way to get into the "system"? Its the true story of patients and doctors on a human journey in the changing medical landscape.
